To truly appreciate the splendour of Iguaccu we explore the Argentinean side then cross to the Brazilian side. Overnight at the Das Cateras Hotel in Brazil.
Day 28. Wednesday 09 January. IGUACCU - RIO DE JANEIRO (BD)
Fly to Rio de Janiero and transfer to our hotel near Copacabana Beach.

Our morning tour includes famed Copacabana Beach, a cog train ride up Corcovado mountain to see the statue of Christ the Redeemer, and a harbour cruise on Guanabara Bay. Free afternoon to enjoy the beach or shops.
Day 30. Friday 11 January. RIO DE JANEIRO (BD)
We drive through downtown Rio and take the cable car to the top of the Sugarloaf mountain and visit a famous gem factory. This evening more South American excitement at Samba show and dinner.
Day 31. Saturday 12 January. RIO DE JANIERO - LIMA. (BD)
Fly to Lima, capital of Peru today.
Day 32. Sunday 13 January. LIMA - CUZCO. (BD)
Morning tour of Lima includes the main square and Government Palace, Town Hall, Bishop Palace, cathedral, and the garden districts of San Isidro and Miraflores. This afternoon fly to Cuzco and transfer to our hotel to rest and adjust to the high altitude.
Day 33. Monday 14 January. CUZCO (BD)
Today we tour the Imperial city of Cuzco including the main square, the Cathedral built between 1560 and 1664, Santo Domingo convent, and the ruins of Sacsayhuaman, and imposing example of Inca military architecture. Also see Kenko, a ritual site with underground galleries and a semi circular ampitheatre, the red fortress, and the Inca Baths. This evening enjoy dinner and a folklore show at a local restaurant.
Day 34. Tuesday 15 January. MACHU PICCHU (BLD)
We take the train through spectacular countryside down into the Urubamba valley to the amazing mystical ruins of Machu Picchu, discovered in 1911 by Hiram Bingham. This afternoon we explore the amazing ruins and return to Cuzco.

Fly back to Lima and transfer to our flight home via Santiago arriving thursday 5th March

Depart Santiago with Lan Airlines for Easter Island. Transfer to our hotel on arrival and this afternoon enjoy our first sightseeing on the island.

CHILE AND ARGENTINEAN LAKES CROSSING
Day 1. SANTIAGO - PUERTO MONTT (BD)
Our morning tour of Santiago includes the Presidential Palace, Plaza de Armas, Pre Colombian Art Museum,San Cristobal hill for a panoramic view over the city, Cathedral and Santa Lucia. This afternoon we fly south to Puerto Montt and transfer to the hotel Cabanas Del Lago in Puerto Varas (City of Roses) with beautiful coastal views along the way. Visit Frutillar including the German Colonial Museum.
Day 2. PUERTO MONTT - PEULLA (BD)
We commence our lakes crossing today driving past Lake Llanquihue and the Petrohue river to Petrohue where we board a ferry for the 2 hour cruise across Lake Todos Los Santos to Peulla. Accommodation at Hotel Natura or similar.
Day 3. PEULLA - BARILOCHE (BD)
Drive over the Perez Rosales pass into Argentina and cruise across Lake Frias and back aboard the coach for the short drive to Puerto Blest for our final cruise, across Lake Nahuel Huapi to Bariloche. Accommodation at Hotel Edelweiss or similar.
Day 4. BARILOCHE - BUENOS AIRES (BD)
This morning our tour of this beautiful area includes the lakes, mountains, and forests, including a chairlift ride to the summit of Campanan Mountain for a panoramic view over the area.. Also visit the Llao Llao Peninsular and visit St Edwards chapel and Llao Llao Hotel. This afternoon we fly north to Buenos Aires, Capital of Argentina. Accommodation at hotel NH Florida or similar.
Day 5. BUENOS AIRES DEPART (BD)
Transfer to the airport for departure.
ECUADOR EXTENSION INCLUDING GALAPAGOS CRUISEDay 1. SANTIAGO - QUITO. (BD)
Fly to Quito, capital of Ecuador,and transfer to our hotel.
Day 2. QUITO (BD)
our morning tour includes Amazona's Way, colonial centre of Quito to see the Legislative Palace, Sala Capitula at San Agustins convent,Independance Plaza, Government Palace, and finally drive up Cruz loma on the slopes of the Pichincha volcano to take a cable car 2800 metres further up the mountain for a fabulous view over the area. Free time this afternoon to explore at your leisure.
Day 3. QUITO - COTOPAXI - RIOBAMBA (BLD)
Drive through the majestic Avenue of the volcanoes and visit Ecuador's first National Park to see Mount Cotopaxi (5907 metres) - the highest active volcano on earth. Lunch is included at a local hacienda before continuing to Riobamba.
Day 4. RIOBAMBA - CHIVA OF THE ANDES - GUAYAQUIL (BLD)
Transfer to the Riobamba train station and board the "Chiva Express" for a spectacular train ride down through the "Devil's Nose"to Alausi to reboard our coach to Huigra. lunch at a country inn and this afternoon its back on the tracks with the "Chiva Express"to Bucay and continue by coach to Guayaquil for a city tour including the Simon Bolivar Park,and Civic centre.
Day 5. GUAYAQUIL - GALAPAGOS (BLD)
Transfer to the airport and fly to the Galapagos island transferring to our cruise ship "M.V "Santa Cruz" on San Cristobal Island.This afternoon begin our explorations of the natural features and inhabitants of the islands that so intrigued Charles Darwin.We cruise past Kicker Rock rising 144 metres from the sea and an importasnt nesting place for Tropic Birds, Blue Footed Boobies, and frigate birds. We will also land by dinghy at Cerro Brujo's white coralline beach among the prolific bird life. Sea Lions and fur seals abound and we should also see the Chatham Lava Lizard. captains welcome cocktail drink and dinner on board.
Day 6. GALAPAGOS CRUISING (BLD)
Morning landing at Punta Suarez for an exciting walk on lava/boulder terrain to visit unique sea bird colonies including waved albatrosses, Nazca and blue footed Boobies, swallow tail gulls, and the famous blowhole. Among the land birds here are the Hood Island Mockingbird,and three species of Darwin's finches. Also look for red-green-black Iguana, and a rookery of sea lions is right at the landing site. After lunch visit Punta Cormorant for an easy walk to a brackish lagoon to see flamingos, ducks, stilts, herons, etc. We also visit a white sand beach where turtles come to nest. Snorkelling is available here or else take the glass bottom boat cruise.
Day 7. GALAPAGOS CRUISING (BLD)
This morning brings us to the youngest island, Fernandina. First a dinghy ride to observe Galapagos Penguins as well as flightless Cormorants. We take a one mile walk. This island has the highest density of marine iguanas sharing their environment with sea lions, sally light foot crabs, and hawks. Back aboard for lunch as we sail along the Bolivar Channel with amazing views of the of the Galapagos youngest volcanoes. Usually dolphins, and possibly whales, are to be seen as we cruise. This afternoon disembark for a walk to Urbina Bay. This area went through a volcanic uplifting event in 1954 leaving gaunt marine skeletons, which makes the walk extremely interesting. This area is home to the very colourful Galapagos Island iguanas and we may find some giant tortoises. Farewell dinner on board tonight.
Day 8. GALAPAGOS - SANTIAGO DEPART (B)>
We arrive at the Itabaca Channel between the islands of Baltra and Santa Cruz and disembark for a 30 minute drive along the highlands road to Puerto Ayera. On arrival visit the Charles Darwin reasearch station to see the rearing in captivity of the famous giant tortoises. Stroll through the impressive giant priCKly pear cactus forest where endemic land birds can be seen. Continue to Baltra for our flight to Guayaquil then on to Santiago connecting to our overnight flight to Auckland. Cross the dateline on the way.
